Protect Your License Against DUI Charges

A DUI (driving under the influence) conviction can drastically change your life even if no one was hurt and nothing was damaged. The consequences of a conviction can cost you your job, your home and your relationships in addition to the legal penalties. When even a first offense can lead to serious problems, you need to be sure you are defending yourself against these charges.

At The Blackwell Law Firm, we know what is at stake with DUI charges, and we are prepared to stand by you to beat, dismiss or reduce your charges. We have been serving clients throughout Pennsylvania since 1991 and are ready to put our decades of experience to work for you.

The Consequences Of Conviction

Pennsylvania courts take DUI cases seriously, and it reflects in their sentencing. Depending on the number of prior convictions you have for DUIs, the worse your current charges can be. Common sentencing for a DUI, based on the number of priors involved, can include:

  • First offense charges – an ungraded misdemeanor resulting in up to $300 in fines, six months of probation, mandatory alcohol highway safety school and treatment (if ordered by a court).
  • One prior offense – an ungraded misdemeanor resulting in up to $2,500 in fines, up to six months of jail time, mandatory alcohol highway safety school and treatment (if ordered by a court), one year of ignition interlock and a 12-month license suspension.
  • Two or more prior offenses – a second-degree misdemeanor resulting in up to $5,000 in fines, up to two years of jail time, mandatory alcohol highway safety school and treatment (if ordered by a court), one year of ignition interlock and a 12-month license suspension.

A first offense is especially dangerous when you consider it the first step to years behind bars after multiple convictions. Our family of lawyers is here to offer you the respect and commitment you deserve from your legal representation as we fight to keep your record as clean as possible.
